Assembly polls: Cong, BJP 2nd candidates' list likely today

Staff Reporter

The second list of candidates is likely to be declared by both Congress and BJP on Tuesday.  The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has declared a list of 147 candidates, while the Congress has come out with 115 candidates’ list.

These lists were announced two days ago and since then both the parties have been facing opposition of party candidates. Group of party workers from different constituencies have come on the roads opposing the party high command’s decision.

Party workers from different parts of the States had been opposing the leadership at the BJP headquarters for past one month, while the Congress headquarters witnessed the opposition only on Monday. Just the next day after the Congress’ list was out, it was Diwali and thus the party workers launched a front against the high command for not providing tickets to the deserving candidates.

The BJP leaders are making efforts to decide remaining 83 candidates, while the Congress is finding it an uphill task to finalise 115 tickets. From BJP camp, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar and organisaitonal general secretary Arvind Menon had reached Delhi on Monday morning and had deliberations with national BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar.

Similarly, the Congress leaders are busy in finalising party tickets. The Congress high command had cleared the first list by holding the tricky constituencies, where more than two or three leaders had been claiming party ticket. All the senior party leaders of Congress have reached New Delhi on Monday and several round of meetings with different leaders continued till late evening. The meetings are likely to continue till Tuesday.

A meeting of the Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) is scheduled in New Delhi on Tuesday and party sources claim that the list would be finalised by the committee on Tuesday.
