Staff Reporter

The Madhya Pradesh (MP) unit of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has expressed concern over the poor condition of the farmers in the State here on Friday. The statistics show high land irrigation and state won fourth Krishikraman Award in 2016 which in reality is cheating to the innocent farmers, alleged All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS).

While talking to media persons here on Friday, AIKS vice president Prahlad Bairagi said the statistics of the land irrigated for farming by the MP government in 2010-11 was 9.75 lakh hectare which in 2014-15 was increased to 32.29 lakh hectare. In 2016, the State received fourth time Krishikraman Award and the statistics was shown as the irrigated farms was 36 lakh hectare.

Principal Secretary of Water Resource Department Radheshyam Julania is in the same position for past five years and Chief Engineer MG Choubey works on contract basis even after retirement for last four years.

Bairagi alleged that Julania and Choubey helped their known contractors get the tenders and thus profit from the deal. This has been going on for last three to four years, added Bairagi.

Bairagi said, “The major projects in the State like Sidhi, Chhatarpur, Rajiv Sagar Balaghat and Teonthar lift Irrigation canal Rewa were all given to contractors close to Julania, who has not taken care of any quality and concentrated on making money. The officials who did not support these select contractors either faced suspension or were transferred.”

He informed that the AIKS would be held in Hyderabad on March 3 to 6 in which 800 farmers from all around the nation would participate.
