leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh and Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Arun Yadav on Friday called on Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat and urged him to get investigated the matter related to large scale irregularities in the electoral rolls in Madhya Pradesh.
The two requested the CEC to get the matter investigated before the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, scheduled in November, 2018.
In the meeting, the leaders submitted a memorandum in which it was mentioned that irregularities in the electoral rolls were witnessed in the recently held Kolaras and Mungaoli assembly by-elections.
They stated that in the by-polls, in the electoral rolls, there were such 8,068 voters who have died. Besides, there were several names that figured twice or thrice in the electoral rolls.
The leaders intimated Rawat that the officials who were prima facie found involved in the irregularities in both the constituencies, were removed from their positions, but soon after the elections, they were again posted at the same place.
They said that Ashok Nagar district Collector Babusingh Jamod, was shifted before elections, has once again been posted Collector in the same district. They alleged this order of Jamod’s posting is a challenge to the Election Commission, because he was shifted only on the directives of the ECI.
Both the leaders suggested the CEC that any officer who has been removed on the charge of violating model code of conduct or irregularities in electoral rolls should not be posted at the same place after the election. Besides, such officers should not be given any important work related to election, they urged.
