AIIMS Bhopal launched a special awareness campaign to observe World Food Safety Day, emphasizing the significance of consuming safe, clean, and nutritious food as part of daily life. The campaign aimed to raise global awareness about the health risks associated with contaminated food and water and to encourage practices that reduce the chances of foodborne illnesses.

The event was led by Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, who highlighted the importance of food safety in achieving better health outcomes and contributing to the global goal of Sustainable Development. He pointed out that ensuring access to safe food is not only essential for individual health but also plays a crucial role in reducing the burden of foodborne diseases, which have far-reaching effects on the population, especially in low-income communities.

Prof. Singh addressed a gathering of citizens, students, and healthcare workers, urging them to adopt simple yet effective habits such as maintaining hygienic eating practices, storing food correctly, ensuring access to clean water, and thoroughly inspecting food items before consumption. He stressed that food safety is a shared responsibility that requires collective vigilance and awareness at every stage—from farm to plate.

"Safe food is the guarantee of a safe life. From farm to plate, every step in the food chain demands caution and awareness," said Prof. Singh during his address. He further emphasized that food safety is a cornerstone in achieving a healthier and safer India, urging the public to play an active role in promoting food safety in their communities.

The campaign also encouraged the citizens to develop habits such as reading food labels carefully before purchasing food items, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption, checking expiry dates on packaged products, and avoiding food from suspicious or unhygienic sources. These actions, when adopted widely, can significantly contribute to reducing the occurrence of foodborne illnesses. AIIMS Bhopal, through this initiative, sought to bridge the gap in public knowledge about food safety and its direct link to overall health and well-being.

The event was part of a larger global movement to improve food safety standards and foster healthy eating practices among communities. By spreading awareness about food safety, AIIMS Bhopal aims to create a ripple effect, encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their health and the health of those around them.
