AIIMS Bhopal marked National Hepatitis Testing Day with a comprehensive awareness campaign and free hepatitis screenings aimed at educating the public about viral hepatitis and promoting early diagnosis and treatment.

The event focused on raising awareness about Hepatitis B and C, infections that pose significant health risks if left undiagnosed or untreated, including liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and even liver failure. Through interactive sessions and informative talks, medical experts emphasized the importance of timely testing and preventive care to control the spread of these silent yet potentially fatal diseases.

Various departments at AIIMS Bhopal collaborated to offer free hepatitis screening to visitors and patients, encouraging people from all walks of life to get tested. The initiative also aimed to dispel common myths about hepatitis transmission and highlight effective prevention strategies such as vaccination, safe injection practices, and blood screening.

Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, underscored the urgency of early detection in managing viral hepatitis. “Hepatitis is a silent epidemic affecting millions globally. Early detection through testing plays a pivotal role in breaking the chain of transmission and initiating timely treatment,” he said. He further emphasized the institute’s dedication to public health education, preventive screening, and comprehensive patient care.

The institute called upon the community to take proactive steps in understanding the risks associated with viral hepatitis and to make use of available screening and vaccination services. Such public health initiatives, according to officials, are vital to reducing the disease burden and preventing avoidable complications.

In addition to the screening and awareness drives, AIIMS Bhopal also plans to conduct follow-up counseling and treatment for those who test positive, ensuring a continuum of care and support.

The observance of National Hepatitis Testing Day at AIIMS Bhopal is part of a larger national effort to combat hepatitis and aligns with the government’s goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
