AICC probes Trust fund fraud in MP

Staff Reporter

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has sent its chartered accountant (CA) to investigate the bank accounts of Jawahar Bhawan Trust.

The AICC had received an anonymous complaint regarding embezzlement of funds to the tune of `32 lakh from the Jawahar Bhawan Trust. From the bank account of the trust, `32 lakh was withdrawn in installments. Notably, the Trust belongs to the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and earlier the PCC office was situated in the Jawahar Bhawan at Roshanpura Square.

Soon after reaching Bhopal, AICC CA SK Jain sealed the bank account of the trust and party sources said that now Jain would start investigating the embezzlement by recording statements of those associated with the trust.

The news regarding Jain’s arrival in the city has sent ripples across the MPCC and the office-bearers declined to comment. When asked about the development, Chief spokesman KK Mishra, in-charge general secretary Chandrika Prasad Dwivedi and Manak Agrawal declined to comment.

Notably, AICC secretary and in-charge general secretary of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Prakash, PCC chief Arun Yadav, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Satyadev Katare and Chandrika Prasad Dwivedi are ex-officio members of the Trust.

Reacting over the incident, State BJP president and parliamentarian Nandkumar Singh Chouhan has said that earlier Arun Yadav’s party looted the country and now Yadav is engaged in looting his own party.

Factionalism responsible

Factionalism among the Congress party leaders seems to be behind the allegation of fund embezzlement.  In an anonymous complaint lodged with AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, it was alleged that the PCC has withdrawn `32 lakh from the trust’s bank account and there is no clarity regarding the expenses of this cash. Besides, in the complaint, it was also mentioned that the PCC is not taking any care of the dilapidated condition of the Jawahar Bhawan building.

It is believed that dissatisfied over the ticket distribution for urban bodies’ elections a number of leaders had tendered their resignations to the PCC chief and probably one of them could be behind this complaint.  Party sources believe that sooner of later, PCC chief would be held responsible for the embezzlement.
