A day after he quit the post of Congress’ Madhya Pradesh unit vice-president, senior party leader Manak Agrawal on Friday said he would wait till Saturday afternoon for the selection of a better candidate by the party for the post of chairman of Itarsi Municipal Council before determining his next strategy.
“Even I have suggested the names of a few candidates for the post. They can prove to be better nominees and the party organisation should consider this,” Agrawal told to mediapersons after meeting with the State’s Public Works Department Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sartaj Singh.
Regarding his meeting with Singh, Agrawal said that the Minister was his neighbour in Itarsi and both kept meeting often. He claimed that their meeting has no political meaning. Meanwhile, BJP sources said that Singh arrived to meet Agrawal on the directives of the State party organisation. Speculations have started doing rounds over Agrawal joining the BJP following the meeting.
Recently, the supporters of a senior Congress leader had allegedly misbehaved with Agrawal at the State Congress office and even vandalised his office. A few Congress leaders on Thursday also demanded the expulsion of Agrawal.
Meanwhile, dissatisfied with the ticket distribution process for upcoming municipal elections in Madhya Pradesh, State Congress vice-presidents Govind Singh and Premchand Guddu resigned from their party posts.
Singh represents lahar in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly while Guddu is a former parliamentarian. Both expressed discontent over the ticket distribution process. Earlier, Congress leader Manak Agrawal quit as the party’s State unit vice-president over the same issue on Thursday. The leaders have sent their resignations to State Congress chief Arun Yadav.
Meanwhile, State Congress spokesperson KK Mishra denied that the two leaders had tendered their resignations. He admitted that both were a little miffed over some matter but would be pacified.
Singh alleged that tickets have been provided to the relatives of a few criminals. Besides, dedicated party workers have been ignored in the process.
