For flouting the rules of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and operating with several irregularities, the affiliation of St Paul Ujjain has been cancelled by the CBSE New Delhi.
The impact of cancellation would be witnessed as other CBSE affiliated schools in the district are flouting rules of CBSE and they would come under scrutiny after St Paul’s incident.
To rein the CBSE affiliated schools, district collector Sanket Bhondve has imposed section 144 under which if any school compels to buy uniform and books from a specified shop, a complaint would be registered and strict action would be taken against the school management.
Several irregularities were found in the functioning of the St Paul school and the action was taken after the school management worked against rules in the year 2014-15 and passing the failed student of class XI on condition that they would have to leave the school. Probably, this exercise was to maintain the performance of the school, but it was found against the rules and regulations.
One of the victim students Nitesh Kanodiya of class XI had filed a case in the High Court against the school management. During investigation, it was found that there were around 70-75 students in a class, while as per rules, it should be around 35 students only.
The school increases fee by 25 to 30 per cent every year. No facility for differently abled children. Conducting of classes IV and V at the four floor which was constructed without permission and had metal sheet roofs and partition of classes was done by plywood.
There is always risk of severe accidents for students who have to reach playground by crossing the MR-5 four lane road which has heavy traffic. Using books by private publishers instead of NCERT books and compulsion of buying school uniform from specified shop only.
Annoyed over the school’s adamant actions, a complaint was lodged with the district collector and an enquiry committee under District Education Officer was formed to conduct enquiry.
