Act against BJP leaders, AAP leaders urge CEO

Staff Reporter

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State office-bearers called on the Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (MP CEO) here on Thursday and handed over a memorandum —addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of India (ECI) — demanding action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, who participated in the Madhya Pradesh bandh, besides questioning the EC and district administration that does it follow the guidelines of doing videography of the BJP programme.

AAP State secretary Akshay Hunka in a statement said, “We have demanded action from the EC against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his Cabinet colleagues and other leaders of the BJP that were involved in organising bandh on the roads of the State.”

Hunka further said that his party has handed over a letter to MP CEO Jaideep Govind saying that the bandh organised in the state on call of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is unconstitutional as all the political parties have to follow the Model Code of Conduct after declaration of the elections. If any political party organizes bandh or demonstration then it has to take prior permission of that from the administration.  It appears that the BJP does not give importance to the rules and regulations and it does not have faith in the constitution, he added.

He said that despite the model code of conduct being in force hoardings and banners greeting chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are seen at various places in the state besides it has come to our notice that during BJPs bandh and demonstration funds were collected. AAP want to know from the MP CEO and the collector Bhopal who also happens to be the District Electoral Officer (DEO) that whether the Election Commission of India guidelines for doing videography of all programmes of the political parties after imposition of model code of conduct were followedIJ Did the authorities responsible bothered to get the videography done of the BJP programme, he added.
