Abandoned, to become world's first nail artist!

Once thrown out of his house, this artist fought his destiny just to become world’s first nail artist. Wajid Khan from Indore has created history experimenting with nails and creating the art pieces never thought about.

Wajid talked about his art works and the entirely different idea that made him world’s first nail artist.

While talking to ‘The Pioneer’ he said, “I was just 14 years old when I was thrown out of my house. The only reason is that I was academically weak and my paternal family hated art. I struggled a lot and a huge part of my life I have spent on footpath.”

Wajid, initially did small works to earn a living. He used to make robots and other things for people. It was only when he met professor Anil Gupta and his life took a U-turn. “Anil sir inspired me to become an artist. It was only in my childhood I understood that I do not want to be a part of the crowd, but a face in the crowd. So, I went back home, saw small nails lying there and decided to create an art piece,” added Wajid.

The first portrait that Wajid created was of Mahatma Gandhi. In 2002 he began his work and till 2005 he was able to complete it. Thereafter, there was no turning back for Wajid.

“I do not sketch any figure before giving it a form over canvas. It’s just my imagination that as it is created,” Wajid said.

In year 2010 Wajid’s name was recorded in limca Book of World Record for his unique art. After his nail art was a hit, Wajid started to think out of the box and created art pieces beyond imagination. He used medical tools, stones and auto parts to create the art pieces and designs.

“Recently I am working on Queen Elizabeth’s portrait. Till now I have created portraits of many celebrities and have worked on various social issues,” said Wajid. Wajid believes that nothing is impossible when will power is strong.

He signed off saying, “I left home with only Rs 1300 in hand. I really feel sad that my parents till now are not happy with my art, but I know that this gives me satisfaction.”
