AAP marks it as 'dhokha diwas'

One year after demonetisation, the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday marked the day as ‘dhokha diwas’ while criticising the Narendra Modi government for taking an “unwise” step that affected crores of Indians in a negative way.

AAP leaders, including its State unit president Bhagwant Mann, co-presidnet Aman Arora and the leader of Opposition Sukhpal Khaira, in a joint statement said that it was one of the worst decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the time when economic growth was already low and industrialists, farmers and other communities were struggling to get their pace.

The party leaders and volunteers, along with the farmers and industrialists, staged protests at the different places throughout the state.

Mann said the ruling BJP and Prime Minister must tell the nation that what benefit common people have got from this decision taken in haste.

“The claims of Modi that demonetisation will bring back black money, help to curb terrorism and revival of economy etc have fallen flat as per the latest reports,” he said.

Khaira said that the decision of demonetisation has affected the agro sector to a large extent as the farmers’ deals in hard cash rather than plastic money. “The farmer community is already passing through bad phase and committing suicides and the decision of demonetisation has further weakened the community,” he added.
