Police cane-charged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers who were holding demonstration to protest alleged acute shortage of electricity and not fulfilling promise of round the clock electricity in the state by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. A public meeting was also held prior to demonstration that was addressed among others by AAP state convener Alok Agarwal. After the demonstration AAP claimed that its 1500 workers were courted arrest while the police cane charged them in that dozens of party workers got injured.
Agarwal in his address said, “Huge loot is going on in the state in the name of electricity. The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government that is glove in hands with the private companies has incurred losses to the tune of `50 thousand crore to the people of state.”
Agarwal further said that Shivraj government has done unconstitutional agreements with the power companies. The Government is purchasing electricity at the rate of `84 per unit from the private companies and it is due to this that the electricity is costly in the state, he added.
He said that today when we are going to take account of this the police of Shivraj Singh Chouhan is canning us for raising our voice. We are not going to gte frightened with this suppression and our fight against the loot of electricity would continue. Madhya Pradesh is the state where electricity is most costly, in Delhi the consumer pays `462 for 200 units while here the consumer has to pay `1272 for the 200 units. If the farmers of the state could not pay electricity bills their motors are seized while this Government does not take any action against the states like Rajasthan, Orissa and others who owe over Rs 1000 crores, he added.
