In what could be termed as a bizarre case a former legislator’s widow is running from pillar to post for pension for past three years but to no avail.
Three-time former Congress legislator Gurbuaksh Atulkar's widow Chhaya has been running from pillar to post for pension since he passed away three years ago but there is no one to heed her troubles.
Ever since Atulkar who was elected from Betul's Amla (Scheduled Caste) constituency to Madhya Pradesh Assembly in 1977, 1980 and 1985 passed away on December 21, 2013, his family has been living on the breadline.
"I had applied for pension meant for ex-legislator's spouse after my husband's demise. However, it has not commenced yet," Chhaya said adding that she has even visited the Mantralaya and the Vidhan Sabha for the purpose.
She said that her husband had taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh to start a petrol pump in Amla. After his untimely death, she sold her ornaments and car for depositing bank installments.
"I have nothing more to sell, my pension has not yet started, and now the wolf is at the door. The State Bank of India has decided to put the petrol pump land under hammer for not depositing installment and lined it up for e-auction on December 9," said Chhaya.
She said she had met Collector Shashank Mishra on Tuesday and requested him for starting the pension at the earliest and for assisting in obtaining breather in paying installment while putting on hold the auction process. The District Collector has assured to secure a respite for her.
