The one woman play ‘Ek Anjaan Aurat Ka Khat’ is an adaptation of the novela written by Stefan Zweig ‘A letter from an Unknown Woman.’ The play showcased various shades of a woman nature. Somewhere she is happy, in another second she is depressed. Somewhere she is dedicated to herself and in another second she remembers her imperfect yet everlasting love.
Wondrously, Asima showcased all the changing mood swings of the woman. As it is a solo play it was performed in a contemporary form. Splendidly performed the solo play, Asima all alone gathers the sores of an illusory romantic relationship. She astoundingly described herself as the embodiment of the sacrificial love and also she personified herself as the dilettante pianist. The play displayed an array of emotions as she one buy one she steps into the shoes of each and every character.
The play follows the story a woman who lives with her widowed mother. As she comes to a city she falls in love with the boy in her neighbourhood. The handsome and the charming boy of her neighbourhood also had the same passion for her. Promises, swearing and much more happened between both of them. Then he left for a holiday only to never return to her. Years passed by and she was eagerly waiting for her love to come back to her.
As the time passed by, she thought to write a letter. She thought that may be her love has forgotten her, even her name. So she wrote a letter. And the procedure of writing the letter was all about the play. As she was writing the letter the play began taking various turns bringing out the endless and indescribable emotions of a woman. As she was coming to a conclusion she burnt the letter and then the play ended with the character’s death.
It was a nail-biting performance by Asima leaving the audience totally astonished at some expressions by her.
“The play has all shades of emotions. In fact, it’s a sea of emotions so to test the actor in me I decided to take it up for a solo performance. I as an actor bring out the expressions and emotions of each and every character in play,” says Bhatt.
