2.9 lakh apply for admission through online process

PNS

Government colleges in the State remained opened on Sunday for admissions. More than 2.9 lakh students have registered themselves for admission in colleges of State through online admission process so far. However, a majority of these students have not got their documents verified as required.

As per rules of online admission of the Department of Higher Education (DHE), students have to first get them registered on the online portal of DHE, submit registration fees and fill choices of courses and colleges. After this they have to get their documents verified from a government college even if they are applying for admission in private colleges. Only after the documents are verified a student is eligible for online admission.  While more than 2.9 lakh students have already registered themselves for admissions in under-graduate courses, the documents of 1.1 lakh students still remains to be verified. DHE has already extended the last date for verification by two days. It will take further decision whether to extend the last date further on Monday.

Sources said the number of students opting for online registration was much more than anticipated by the DHE, though all the arrangements were made in this regard.

DHE Commissioner VS Niranjan said Government colleges were kept open on Sunday so that students can get their documents verified. “The date has been extended keeping in view the best interests of the students. We are working overtime to ensure students should not be deprived from getting admission in colleges due to delays,” he noted.
