New technique for making thread developed
A four member team of HCM division has developed a new simple Technique for making thread by using adjustable Split die and a solid bar for mass production. A Split Die is used to cut or form the thread on cylindrical rod with Die handle by manual process.
The adjusting screws allow the die to be compressed or expanded to accommodate slight variations in size, due to material, manufacture, or die sharpness.
Normally adjustable die is used to clean up the existing thread or forming a thread by manual. It is directly not used on the machine.
Team has developed a method and made it possible to use of adjustable die on lath machine for mass production.
This new process will also be useful for other department (Factory level & Other BHEl units) having similar application. It will eliminate the waiting time of re sharpening of tools.
This alternative method is a substitute of circular / radial chaser. Cost of making a thread by developed new method is very economical and simple compared to forming a thread by Circular chaser. Cost of Spit die with handle is 1/ 20th of Circular chaser. There will be a saving of Rs 50 lac per annum.
