2 quintals of mawa seized from trains

Staff Reporter

Around two quintals of spurious mawa was seized in more than 110 packets from two different passenger trains at Bhopal railway station on Thursday. No arrest was made during the seizure procedure.

Acting on a tip off, the GRP Bhopal searched Malwa express and Pathankot express trains and found more than 110 packets of spurious mawa from there. In Malwa express around 60 packets of mawa were found and around 53 packets of mawa were seized from Pathankot express.

On receipt of information GRP Bhopal informed the Food and Drug Administration department. After the mawa was seized samples of the mawa were sent for testing in the laboratory by the FDA officials. The GRP have started searching for the nexus involved in circulating the spurious mawa in the market.

Police said that the mawa was brought from Gwalior and was scheduled to be delivered in the city but sensing that claiming the mawa might attract arrest, no one claimed the mawa due to which no one was arrested in the operation.

The circumstances under which the mawa was found suggests that the mawa might be adulterated as if the mawa was pure and not spurious the owner should have claimed the huge quantity seized during the search.

The mawa is adulterated or not would be cleared only after receiving the test report by the FDA department.

Other passengers who were in the train when questioned expressed ignorance about the mawa packets in the train. Earlier too, mawa has been seized during transportation from Gwalior to Bhopal.
