A 106-year-old Piraki Bai, a resident of Jamunia Johar village near Narsinghgarh, successfully regained her vision following cataract surgery at Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital on Frida.
The surgery was performed by glaucoma and cataract specialist Dr Sapna Srivastava. Piraki Bai's vision had been deteriorating in both eyes for some time.
Doctors had advised operating on one eye at a time to restore her sight, but she initially refused due to a deep fear of surgery. Tragically, her hesitation led to permanent damage in one eye, rendering it inoperable.
As her remaining eye also began to fail, doctors informed her that surgery could potentially restore her vision.
Despite this, Piraki Bai was still reluctant to undergo the procedure.
It took persistent counseling from the doctors and encouragement from her family to overcome her fear. Ultimately, she agreed to the operation.
On Saturday, when the bandages were removed, Piraki Bai's vision was restored, and her joy was uncontainable.
She expressed her happiness and gratitude for the successful procedure.
Her nephew, 67-year-old retired teacher Shivcharan Chaudhary, accompanied her to Sewa Sadan. A staunch believer in the hospital's treatment quality, Shivcharan shared that many members of his family have trusted Sewa Sadan for their eye care needs. However, he expressed regret that his aunt lost vision in one eye due to her initial hesitation.
The success of this surgery underscores the importance of timely medical intervention and the exceptional services provided by Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital.
