Tips to crack the JEE Advance exam

Rl Trikha

With JEE Adavance exam only a couple of weeks away, Rl Trikha  tells you that for last-minute preparation, students should remain focussed and follow a well-planned revision schedule for Maths, Physics and Chemistry

Planning and scheduling of single most important resource — time — is the essence of utilisation of this about one and half months left for all prestigious JEE Advance examination scheduled to be held on May 24, 2015. The JEE Advance exam and Board exam that have just finished have mostly common syllabus. The difference is in focus and practical application of concepts requiring analytical skills and reasoning. Students should remain focussed. Well-planned time schedule of revision of the three subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be strictly followed.

Stress should be on quick revision with progress checked by solving quizzes/mock test papers on regular basis. Selective study/revision is to be avoided since all major concepts/topics are likely to be covered with intermingling of the concepts of various topics in the same questions. During practice sessions of attempting mock test papers, student should aim at 100 per cent hit rate — all attempted questions should be correct.

This will enable competitive edge over others who will be left behind in the race due to negative marking on wrong attempts. However, as a strategy questions carrying no negative marking must be attempted since there is nothing to loose with fairly good chance of maximising marks. Periodic checking of progress made by solving test papers each day will result in enhanced speed and accuracy by working on weak areas known from the feedback of tests.

Speed and accuracy will also allow to finish JEE Advance papers ahead of time, leaving some time for revision & solving balance unattempted questions.

While revising all chapters of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as per time table, based on our past experience stress may be given by students on the following topics:

Mathematics

Quadratic Equations andExpressions, Complex Numbers, Probability, Vectors, Matrices in Algebra; Circle, Parabola, Hyperbola in Coordinate Geometry; Functions, limits, Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives, Definite Integral in Calculus.

Physics

Mechanics, Fluids, Heat & Thermodynamics, Waves and Sound, Capacitors & Electrostatics, Magnetics, Electromagnetic Induction, Optics and Modern Physics.

Chemistry

Qualitative Analysis, Coordination Chemistry andChemical Bonding in Inorganic Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium in Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Complete as a topic.
