'Technology and academics are key'

Pioneer

After 37 years of teaching experience in institutions like The Doon School and Mayo College, Pramod Sharma is all set to head Genesis Global School. He speaks with Shibaji Roychoudhuryabout his plans on how to take the school forward

What does Genesis Global School (GBS) have to offer more than other public schools in DelhiIJ

The school is a premier day-cum-residential school offering a world class campus. We provide parents with the liberty of choosing a plan best suited to the needs of their children. We offer a choice between national (CBSE) and international curriculum (IGCSE &  IBDP). We are also a candidate school for the IB, PYP & DP. Students can find a platform of study that matches their individual capabilities and interests. We have also partnered with Clifton College, Bristol UK, and l’Ermitage, International School of France, focusing on multiculturalism which helps make our students global citizens.

What is the teaching approach in your schoolIJ

We follow a differentiated curriculum. There are three kinds of worksheets made in every class. Each is divided into three formats for able, average and slow learners which helps in a better analysis of the learning abilities of students and teach them accordingly. This format helps to address the specific needs of the child. We also have Mind Spark, which is an online computer-based self-learning programme that helps the child improve skills in Maths. Through this programme, the child can learn at their own pace.

How important are extra-curricular activitiesIJ

These are crucially important for the overall personality development of children. A variety of extracurricular activities carefully woven into school curriculum enables the children to enhance their self-esteem and tolerance.

What kind of extra-curricular programmes GGS  offersIJ

We follow the canopy education approach where sports and games play an important role in helping the child imbibe critical life skills and skills that can be acquired only on the playfield. The culture of the holistic residential schools has been brought to Delhi through the school. The residential schools are known for the variety of sporting activities that they provide to children.

The school has paid utmost attention to detail so that the sporting facilities provided by the school are of international standards. Various academies in association with the best sporting institutions have been set up in the school.

Innovative teaching methods at GBS...

The need today, is to empower students with a responsible sense of using technology to their academic and professional advantage. Technologically aided education has already started bringing a revolutionary change in the society and there is no way a student or teacher can afford to exclude himself from the fascinating world of information and technology.

You have won many accolades and have years of experience in teaching. What changes do you plan to make in GGSIJ

I look forward to creating a day-cum-boarding school that will offer excellent sports facilities, combined with the international flavor of modern education. I am certain this temple of learning will help the students to grow mentally alert and physically sound, prepared to lead their country with distinction.

What made you join GGSIJ

I have always loved challenges in my life and being offered the headship of GGS as founder principal and director of the school was an exciting challenge for me. The intensity of the project and infrastructure also fascinated me. The idea of having inclusive education alongside main stream education was also unique. Also, what immensely impressed me was our sister institution which provides free education to special needs children.
