Study diabetes management

SANGEETA YADAV

Diabetes is ranked second in terms of prevalence in India and is expected to rise to 100 million patients by 2030. In the wake of an alarming rise in the number of diabetes patients in India, Fortis C-DOC Centre of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic disease and Endocrinology in partnership with British Medical Journal (BMl), has rolled out a new online certificate course for the medical practitioner on Diabetes Management.

“It has been observed that more than 60 per cent of the diabetes cases are treated by General Physicians which is why the treatment is not well effective. It later on effects the eyes, hearing problem, degeneration of bones, and other parts of the body. Thus, the need of the hour is to have specialised diabetes experts, who can help in fast detection of the health problem and suggest a right treatment to get a control over it. In tie-up with BMl, we’ve developed highly effective programme that will help the physicians to specialise and get proper knowledge about diabetes, its diagnosis and management,” Dr Anoop Mishra, chairman, Fortis C-Doc tells you.

The programme is for six-months and comprises 47 modules which can be completed within 15 months. At the end of this course, physicians can apply national and international guidelines and have evidence to the practice of diabetes care in India.

The curriculum will have introduction to diabetes, lifestyle modifications and obesity management, pharmacological management of diabetes, management of complications and co-morbidities etc. Students will be taught through video and text modules by the selective experts.

Each batch, which would start from the first week of February, will have 40 students doctors. There will be three schedules for the contact programme i.e. induction phase for one-on-one interaction with the faculty about the course, hands on training for six days and then evaluation and certification.

The eligibility to apply for the course is candidates should be a registered medical practitioner with MCI or any of the state medical councils. The fee of the course is  Rs 50,000.
