The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a scheme for imparting skills training to the underprivileged youth in India through trained instructors, better curriculum and pedagogy. The unemployed youth are in search of employment and the employers themselves are looking for qualified people to work with. The PMKVY aims to have a confluence between the two. This scheme is implemented by the Government with the help of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) training partners.
One such partner is Infrastructure leasing and Financial Services (Il&FS). The joint venture between Il&FS and NSDC, Il&FS Skills Development Corporation aims to train two million people over a period of 10 years.
An Outreach programme held in the Capital recently to mobilise the underprivileged youth in Delhi saw different counseling sections put up for various sectors such as engineering, construction, banking, financial services and insurance sector, retail, hospitality, beauty and wellness, healthcare, specialty drivers, English for Employability Interested people could register and get a gist of the various sections where they were informed of the scope, job opportunity etc in that field and then they could pursue any line that they wished to with proper guidance.
The Government scheme, as Suchanda (NSDC PMKVY PMU) said, provides counseling and training, after which there is an independent assessment.
Anyone who passes the exam is entitled to a Government certificate and a monetary reward, ranging from `5,000 to `12,000 depending on the course which can then be used to pay the fee.
