How to avoid math anxiety

Pioneer

For many students, the thought of taking the math exam fills them with terror. So much so that many get high fever a day before the test. Aakash Chaudhry says that time management & reading the question paper properly can take care of any stress or phobia that one may have

As far as Board exams are concern, we must know that every Board has its set pattern of question paper. The fore most thing a student has to take care of is full knowledge of pattern question paper. Also how the question paper is generally framed for a particular subject. Once a student is aware about the pattern and frame work it is very easy to get good score in a particular subject.

Generally Math is a phobia for most students, which should not be really. Once the student knows how many questions are coming in paper and in how many sections the question paper is divided, the rest is easy. Many students also want to know how many questions are there in each section and what is the weight age of each sectionIJ This is because, it helps them to tackle each chapter accordingly. So, here is a list of dos that will help a student taking the Board exam.

  • Be clear about the chapters/topics in those sections. This is easily taken care of from the sample papers of the previous years available on the Board website
  • Be very clear about our last study experiences that in how many topics/chapters we are confidentIJ And in how many more practice is required. Also take a note about the marks allotted as per Board blue print as per your analysis about you
  • Try to cover chapters having more weight age in exams first with full preparation and confidence
  • As there is set pattern and even topics (generally) section wise, about the questions so it is very easy to know and work more on those type of questions
  • One must solve mock test in sufficient number as per the possible blue prints of paper. Time management is also important so while practising make sure every sample paper must be solved as per guidelines of board. Parents can help by doing invigilation
  • Must also know with help of teacher what to write, how to write
  • Must have one sample answer copy, generally available with Board website and practice accordingly
  • While checking for responses one must note the mistakes and should not repeat again during the exam — before going to write the examone has to take proper sleep so that in exam hall one must feel fresh and energetic. Apart from this, the other points that must be kept in mind are:
  • Read the question paper carefully in the time allotted by board for it and decide the sequence of section to solve with rough time allotment for each section.
  • Always attempt that section first in which you are more confident and sure for accuracy it will give you a good start of answering the paper.
  • Try to solve the paper in a sequence of questions
  • Neatness is very important. Avoid much cuttings
  • Solve those questions in which you are not sure or can take time at last
  • Do not write more/less in solution. Try to write as per the requirement of problems. This will help in managing the time. Because this is general excuse of students that paper is lengthy, which is not true, just because of miss management in writing answers some students face this problem. So write to the point with mentioning necessary concept/formula
  • If you do not know the complete solution of any problem, solves in steps as there is step marking in Board
  • Write answers/results separately with units.
  • label the diagrams and graphs properly
  • Manage the time in such a way that you must have sufficient time to revise what have one has written and correct in case of need.
