On the occasion of the 97th Foundation Day of Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI), Prof AK Bakhshi, vice-chancellor, PDM University was recently invited by the JMI to deliver a talk for its students and teachers on ‘E-learning and MOOCs in Higher Education’. Prof Talat Ahmad, vice-chancellor, JMI felicitated Prof Bakhshi and hailed his outstanding contributions in the field of education.
While addressing the gathering, he said that MOOCs are going to change the face of education in the country. He emphasised on the basic philosophy of MOOCs ie 4As (Anyone, anytime, anywhere and any number of times) which is going to be very useful for the learners. He ensured that once MOOCs become popular, it will help in solving the problem of low accessibility in higher education in India by increasing the gross enrollment ratio (GER). Prof Bakhshi urged the need of a Virtual University in India.
Giving tips to the students, Prof Bakhshi told them that whatsoever line of study they have chosen, they should strive to excel in it by their sincerity, self-discipline, and dedication by remaining very focused and that the ultimate key to their success lies in how they manage their time.
Prof Bakhshi told teachers of JMI that their teaching should reflect the amount of thinking they have done on their subject. Instead of rote learning, the teachers should focus on encouraging thinking, innovation and creativity amongst students.
