The Father Agnel School (FAS), Noida conducted Model United Nations (MUN) from April 10-12, 2015 where about 400 delegates from various schools and academic institutions across the country participated. Participants in the FASMUN-2015 held conferences were delegates placed in committees and assigned countries, different organisations as well as political figures.
Addressing the closing ceremony on April 12, senior BJP leader and ex-conveyor of the Overseas Affairs of BJP Vijay Jolly appreciated the task undertaken by students and the school management in deliberating upon the core issues pertaining to the role of United Nations.
Jolly, who himself has travelled across 82 countries as part of diplomatic tours, mentioned that the foreign policy undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is exceptional which is now acknowledged and recognised worldwide include in the UN.
The opening remarks were made by former IPS officer Uday Sahay who said that MUN is an educational simulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the UN.
On the occasion Director of Fr Agnel School J A Carvalho said that the relevance of UN seems to be fading and it just remains the domain of mighty and wealthy. He said that this is the platform which aims at fostering a better understanding of major international issues and concerns with great experience for students to debate.
Principal of the school, Sr Sherine Thuruthel and coordinator of the programme Jyoti Sen Gupta were present. The students presented exhilarating cultural programme including fusion of dance and music.
