Studies in the US proved that students with parents involved in their school have fewer behavioural problems and better academic performance, says Parul Uppal
Children are like an empty canvas painted into a masterpiece with colours of knowledge and learning, and the co-creators of this masterpiece are their parents and teachers.
Parents are the child’s first role model. In their initial years, they copy their parents to an extent where they behave, enact and react just like their parents. Their primary reaction to any situation (fight/flight) is formed in the formative years by acquiring the parent’s and the educator’s traits.
Teachers are the first source of knowledge for most children. A student forms his notion about a subject based on its teacher’s way of imparting knowledge. If the teacher is supportive and inspirational, they will love the subject even though he might have a lower aptitude for the subject and vice versa.
Parent’s engagement: Parent engagement is when they share responsibilities with teachers to learn and meet educational goals. It enhances the child’s grade and results in good behaviour.
Studies in the US proved that students with parents involved in their school have fewer behavioural problems and better academic performance, attend school regularly and are more likely to graduate than those whose parents are not engaged.
Parent engagement is different from parents’ involvement. In this, the teacher sets the goal, and parents act as advisors rather than participants.
Teacher’s role: Teachers play a vital role in a student’s life inside and outside the classroom. They are one of the first inspirations of a child and drives them towards the future they wish to see. They impart knowledge in academics or extracurricular activities and are responsible for shaping their personality by teaching them the values and ethics in life.
Today, teachers fill in the gap between information and real education with viable real-life examples and experiments. Teachers are the most prominent assets of a student's educational journey.
Commingled platform: Parent’s and teachers’ involvement in a student's life is not a new concept, but a platform that enables both the parties to actively play a vital role is groundbreaking.
It will help parents keep a check on their ward's academic growth, interact with other parents for parenting tips, interact with the teacher, and control their child's learning quality. The teachers will be able to sell the best content at a regulated price as the parents understand the importance of quality learning and will be able to interact with students and parents personally. They will partner with global teachers to learn about students' different teaching styles and mindsets.
Finally, the students will harvest the fruit of this commingled journey as they will interact with their teachers without any interruptions, interact with their peers, develop their interests, and participate in co-curricular activities in a much larger setting.
Giving this trio a platform will be like a wheel of fortune, revolutionising our entire education system 360 degrees.
