FICCI FlO (FICCI ladies Organisation) Bangalore has recently launched ‘WE – Women Employment in Education and Transport’. It is Karnataka’s largest women empowerment programme to train women for jobs as security guards, canteen staff, Gym and pool attendants, bus drivers and conductors, taxi or auto drivers and much more. This initiative is being carried out by FlO Pan India in all its 14 locations.

There is a huge demand for women taxi drivers. One major cab company plans to hire 10 lakh women cab drivers by 2020. But there is a lack of qualified women drivers. Also there is a challenge that needs a driver to have a non commercial driving license for at least one year before they can get a commercial license. FlO have roped in various service providers like Maruti to help train the drivers initially. Maruti Suzuki ltd. pledged to train 1500 women as drivers across 14 chapter of FlO free of cost.

In addition, Advanced Security Training & Management Pvt ltd (ASTM) also pledged its support under the initiative by training women as security guards. G4S India, leading security solutions group promised jobs for 10,000 women security guards over next three years.

“The FlO programme wouldn’t only be beneficial to the women, who would be able to achieve better economic independence, but would also benefit the society at large who would receive trained manpower and peace of mind”, says Rati Dhandhania Mundrey, chairperson, FICCI FlO Bangalore.
