Unrestrained freedom dangerous

Bharat Bhushan Padmadeo

Right to freedom has been resonating loud on most of the television channels since Supreme Court agreed to review afresh their earlier take on lGBT issue. I wonder whether legal adjudication could anyway set the terms of individual-specific social behaviour, which ordinarily is guided by how each mind is inherently inclined. And something that is rooted in the deep realm of mind cannot be so easily transformed by social or judicial commandments. At best, it could to some extent deter people from behaving in a particular way in public.

I am not inclined to sit on judgment about whether the claim of the lGBT proponents is right or wrong, whether on religious grounds or in the name of the laws of nature. For then the proponents may ask: Who is competent to define, a question with which they have been confronting those who are opposed to their standpoint. But what is intriguing is to make such a claim in the name of ‘fundamental right’.

True, human beings enjoy the freedom to make choices. But would it mean that one could passionately pursue one’s individualistic whims and fancies, even if it is to the detriment of our collective living order, and with impunityIJ Would it enjoin you with absolute freedom to sit in the middle of a road and sell goodsIJ Remember, whenever there is a choice, the probability of its use and misuse remains equal, and evidently, the onus of making right choice is on you. For, in a living framework bound by cause-effect chain, you cannot escape the consequences of the choices that you make.

Had the consequences of individual choice been limited to the self alone, the matter would not qualify for public concern. Here, what needs to be borne in mind is that this world is set into an inseparable interdependent structure. For, each one of us is born imperfect, not capable of meeting one’s existential needs by oneself. It is in togetherness, complimenting and supplementing each other’s efforts that our existential concerns get served.

So, even individual welfare would be secure only when the societal order would be in proper shape.  It, thus, implies that any individual aberration or for that matter, unseemly group behaviour all the more, carry the potential to unsettle societal harmony and balance, and hence the need for a reasoned conduct.

The question is: “Are we justified in acting animal-likeIJ” Here, it will be desirable to look at what differentiates a man from an animal. In the five stages of the evolution chain, from mineral world such as earth mass — to plants and vegetable world to animals and birds with a rudimentary mind to human beings with a developed mind — and finally to a fully evolved all knowing beings, animals have reached the third level. In this scheme of things, an animal’s nature is to act, react, or respond on instincts, but would not know whether their act is right or wrong, and with no scope to make any exception to the design parameters driving them.

A man on the contrary, having graduated to the fourth level of evolution is empowered to dispassionately evaluate the choices in hand through exercise of the indwelling faculty of discriminate intelligence, and accordingly guide one’s actions intelligently. Also, it qualifies human beings to effect changes in the self as well as the environment through conscious efforts. For such an empowered creature to lower down one’s level to act animal-like is a point to ponder.

Another question that deserves attention in this context is that how come ordinarily people are drawn towards the opposite sexIJ For an answer, a look into the energy construct of human beings becomes imperative.  Remember, a human being with a solid frame, remains at the sub-atomic level nothing but a web of vibrating energy patterns, men and women structured differently. And they are so made out as to meet each other’s voids in energy terms, is how they get naturally drawn towards each other. Any exception to this framework has to be the handiwork of individual specific mental inclinations.

The above fundamentals of life need to be kept in mind while deliberating on the issue in hand. Enough of food for thought has been made available. It is now for all conscientious minds to dispassionately examine against this back ground and reason out the right course due for us.
