Steps to shape your destiny

Bharat Bhushan Padmadeo

We are not slave to our destiny, as would related previous issues summarise. The power of free will, which is duly aided by discriminatory abilities, enjoins upon us with the privilege to rather shape our destiny. But it is easier said than done. So, how to go about nowIJ Before proceeding further, it needs to be first acknowledged that we are all born imperfect, the roots of which are laid down in the making of our mind. That needs to be addressed, to steer clear the pathway for allowing inlaid potential a smooth run. Otherwise, our ego will not let us remain true to the purpose.

Here again, one has to have ‘faith in the self’ as being empowered to bring about desired change through conscious efforts. For, faith firms up our will and resolve to seek change. It also brings into play the vitals within, to let us put in wholesome efforts. The faith component gets further strengthened when the recommended process is pursued in prayer mode. For, prayer lets you enjoy what you are pursuing, and also motivates you for persistent effort.

Having thus made up one’s mind to give a qualitative turn to life, towards the first course, one needs to service the mind on a regular basis as a matter of routine. Here comes the role of a guru who leads you through ‘Mind detoxification’ process, which is nothing but a self-reflective mode of meditation. This exercise helps pull out baggage full of inconsequential and negative imprints gathered at the sub-conscious level, and gradually put them to rest. For, these imprints otherwise keep rattling us from within, not allowing our functional-self operate intelligently. The mind-space these imprints occupy, do not leave scope to absorb fresh educative inputs, or processing our thoughts objectively either.

Remember, even while one is idling, mind is not at rest. It remains engaged in attending to random thoughts it keeps breeding non-stop, which keeps loading our mind-space with imprints thereto. This is besides good and bad memory impressions picked up while discharging usual course of our duties and obligations. Mind-space, thus, gets too much cluttered over a period of time. The overburdened mind gets so vexed that it loses sense of direction and is not able to remain focused to priority preferences. Meanwhile, the thought process becomes so complex that habitually, it looks at even simple issue in a circuitous way making its resolution an arduous affair.

Having graduated in the above process for a while, mind relatively acquires a state of ease, when it becomes open to listening and also amenable to change. Here after, a course of ‘Contextual Meditation’ is recommended. This is a process of mind-engineering for integrated development of a being. It embraces the energy and mind, the two constituents vital to a dynamic being, obviously with primary focus on mind. For, mind determines and drives the functional mandate of a being. The fruition would be a sustained qualitative growth of enriched intrinsic energies and a well coordinated thought process.

The tools involved are ‘Mantra’ and its corresponding ‘Symbolism (deities as we perceive in Indian tradition)’. Mantra is nothing but a set of syllables, placed in a logical sequence to create a particular sound effect – an energy formation having a particular wavelength and frequency. Regular recitation of the mantra helps tune up with particular energy-stream in the nature to make up for any imbalance in terms of energy-construct of a being. The mantra has to be identified by the guru in accordance with individual-specific needs.

Indian symbolisms relate to various concepts vital to well reasoned conduct. For, they carry philosophical imports that educate us how to approach life. The inlaid message serve as auto-suggestion, which when, consistently reflected upon become an integral part of one’s character. It then finds spontaneous reflection in our demeanour. The symbolism too has to be individual-specific set in correspondence with the mantra by the guru. The process involves repeated recitation of the mantra with focus on the related symbolism.

The guru can lead you still further, beyond mantra and form, into samadhi state, when one becomes fully entrenched with the divine spirit. Consequently, your consciousness gets raised to its optimum best, where after mind would know no limits. To conclude the series, it is worth quoting Swami Vivekananda again: “The history of the world is the history of few men who had faith in themselves.  Faith calls out divinity within you; you can do everything.  You fail only when you do not strive sufficiently to manifest immense power.”
