Servicing mind a prerequisite

Bharat Bhushan Padmadeo

Fertile land, even if left uncultivated for long, will yet not remain barren. It keeps breeding wild grass and weeds unabated. You can’t harvest crops in such a piece of land unless it is cleared of grass and weeds, thoroughly tilled, watered, and fed with fertiliser.  Even after sowing seeds, periodic weeding out would be needed to ensure a good harvest. For, the weeds are so intractable that even if you completely uproot them, they will grow again out of a few traces left over in the field.

Human mind too needs to be serviced in a similar fashion on a daily basis, as it has a very fertile ground. Mind remains on a constant run exciting myriad thoughts unabated - meaningful, inconsequential, negative, fanciful ideas distanced from ground reality, and even conflicting. These thoughts may be self-created out of the memory imprints laid in the deep realm of mind, or in response to external stimuli. like the weeds, these thoughts and particularly the negative ones are so tenacious that they keep visiting you again and again under ordinary circumstances and keep you engaged all the time.

Unless the undesirable thoughts are screened off and weeded out on a regular basis, which is not so easy, over a period of time, they clutter your mind-space very badly. Mind turns into a thick jungle of thoughts where you get lost. Consequently you begin moving directionless. For, you are not left with the time and space necessary to process any fresh thought objectively. The mind becomes stale and your discriminating faculty takes a back seat, and with obvious consequences. You are not left with any scope to excite fresh productive ideas, or for that matter, taking any creative initiative.

Evidently, you are left behind in the run of time, leading to failure and frustration. And then, stress followed by depression becomes a natural corollary, often calling for medical intervention.  For, such a predicament of mind leads to hormonal imbalance, which in turn further compounds the stress/depression. One also develops insomnia whereafter the energy level becomes so low that you are not left with the spirit necessary to carry forward even routine obligations. It is pertinent to note here that it is during dreamless sleep every night that one gets recharged with fresh energy, vital to one’s dynamic functions.

The question now is: How to get out of this malaiseIJ A two-pronged approach could resolve the problem.  First, to seek medical help. But medication and counseling done by medical experts alone would not suffice. For, the long drawn memory imprints get so firmly entrenched within that unless some process is adopted that lets you delve deep within to resolve them, they keep hounding you. That calls for using meditative techniques under the guidance of a proven Guru, following which one would be able to first detoxify one’s mind and then give the thought process a positive turn.

A case in point is that of a person with a very fertile mind, vision foresight and imagination. This comes out of mind-signifying Moon in thelagna, enjoying trine aspect of benevolent Jupiter marked with wisdom from the 9th house identified with higher mind. The Sun beautifully aligned to karmakarak Saturn points to a born leader with excellent organising ability and capable of inspiring others. Mercury and Venus together make out a studious person having refined conduct and good at public relations. Jupiter well aligned to Uranus makes him intuitive and philosophical, also carrying strong desire for self-improvement.

The above positives, however, could not lead him through because he failed to service his cluttered mind, coming as it may with a lot of negatives simultaneously playing from the front. The pointers are Moon in conflict with deluding Neptune, Mercury marked with commonsensical judgment, emotion signifying Venus, and willpower indicator the Sun.

The implication is that he would be an escapist who may not acknowledge truth in its first appearance. Second, he remains stuck to his self-excited fanciful ideas distanced from ground realities and with a closed mind, and more so because Mars is locked in adverse formation to Jupiter. Third, he remains caught up with self-excited conflicting thoughts and not able to reason out what way to move because he lacks the focus necessary to discriminate.

He also suffers from unpredictable mood swings. Should the man pursue spiritual remedial exercise in right earnest, soon his inlaid potentials may begin acting from the front.
