A mother, worried about her daughter’s prospects at the board examination due early next year, shared her concerns the other day: “My daughter is very creative and has a photographic memory. But so far she has not been able to perform well at her successive annual examinations.” She was given to understand by her village astrologer that her daughter’s fate stands cursed by evil influences exercised by some planets. And unless something is done to appease the planetary implications, the situation will remain as such till the end of her Saturn period due late 2016. He had suggested some gemstones and puja, but that failed to make any impact so far. The question now is that if she fails to perform in her board examination, she will not be able to make it to a good college. “Can something be done to help improve her performanceIJ” the lady wished to know.
At the outset, I assured the lady that her daughter’s fate is not doomed. She could still do well, if instead of trying to appease the planets, she tries to identify her infirmities and then fix them up without further loss of time. It may not be out of place to mention here that if someone fails to secure desired results, it is not simply because one would be destined as such, and with no scope for rectification. The failure as such is more because he/she would not have striven sufficiently to unfold the best in oneself and put in one’s whole. Remember, intelligence and good memory by itself are not enough to secure desired results. One should be able to use them properly as well. Your memory is just an information-bank, and that makes out just one part of the whole story. Intelligence again can make you understand well what you have read. But at the end of the day, you shall have to recall all that is there in your memory-bank in a flash action, and present them in the right perspective that would be contextually true to the callings of the question asked. All these would require a coordinated and consistent functioning of all constituents of mind.
Be it known that planets do not define your destiny. They just act like a measuring gaze to let you know your inlaid potentials, functional limitations, and overall mental propensities. What finally defines your destiny is the way you conduct yourself in real life. If, however, one tries to dispassionately figure out the way your mind is inherently framed, and then make necessary corrections, you could very well shape your destiny. This would be the most appropriate use of the power of freewill we human beings are endowed with, which, more often than not, we misuse to passionately pursue our whims and fancies. And again, Astrology used on this premise can serve as a very effective diagnostic-tool towards improving our performing-self.
let us now examine the girl’s astrological pointers in the above perspective. The Sun conjunct Mercury, both well disposed off to Mars, point to her photographic memory, good intelligence level, and the one bounding with energy. Benevolent Jupiter there in the lagna together with Uranus, both well disposed off to Venus point to her intellectual, artistic and creative urge. But the evidence of inertia, and thereby lack of spirit and efforts, stand in the way of her consistent performance, as would Saturn crossing path with Sun imply.
This tendency gets further compounded with headless Ketu in close vicinity of Saturn, which does not let her attend to the challenges head on. And if that would not be enough, mischievous Neptune, mind-signifier Moon, and the communicative-ability-indicator Mercury, all respectively locked in adverse formation plays further play-sport with her performance.
That in the first place, accounts for her incoherent thought process and thereby impaired reasoning and judgment. Second, she would be high-strung, worrisome, and indecisive. Third, she would be an escapist stuck to her self-delusions distant from ground realities, which does not allow her to set the priorities right. And she would be lacking in the communicative skill necessary to answer the questions asked in the right perspective. On top of that Mars locks horns with both Uranus and Jupiter. That makes her temperamental and the one with inflated ego. As a consequence, she would not be open to listening and counsel, not easily amenable to change.
The answer lies in attending to her inherent infirmities from the base level in practical terms. Astrology can just serve as a diagnostic tool. If she just religiously follows the mind-reorientation exercise suggested, I am sure, she will be able to perform well.
