Face challenges smartly

Bharat Bhushan Padmadeo

A regular reader of this column, having gone through the previous issue on Shani’s sadhesati, came forward with a few related questions. The questioner submitted: “let me accept that change is inevitable during the aforesaid period.

But my transition during sadhesati’s spell was very painful. Things, however, got better when I came across the right mentor. The astrologers I met earlier not only misguided me, but also aggravated my fear. The question now is: Why in some cases is the change smooth, whereas in others it proves painfulIJ Second, is the change always towards the better or worseIJ And, why do some astrologers behave crazyIJ”

Remember, change during sadhesati is to prepare one to keep pace with the varying dynamics of emerging times and is, therefore, intended to do good only. But how smooth or painful is the process depends upon how an individual responds to it and his/her basic conditioning of the mind.

Experience suggests that people with high egos mostly remain stuck to the callings of their preconditioned minds, not open to listening or counseling, and so shun change. For them, change of any kind is burdensome. In cases where natal Saturn and Moon are not well-aligned to each other, whenever transit Saturn closes up with natal Moon, the two join hands to stir up the mind so much that it becomes difficult to bear with. But every such happening comes with a forewarning.

As soon as Saturn enters the sign preceding the one occupied by Moon, it gives a hint of the impending change. If one takes note of it and prepares oneself accordingly, the change process could be relatively easier. But those who prefer to ignore become due for being taken for a ride when Saturn enters the Moon sign. Their wandering minds begin to unnerve them too much, evidently bringing in a very painful experience. A similar experience becomes due even when Saturn transits the fourth, seventh and 10th sign from that of Moon’s natal position — a period commonly known as Shani’s dhaiya (the spell of two-and-half-years taken by Saturn to pass through a sign with natal Moon in the kendra). If, on the contrary, Saturn and Moon are well-aligned in the natal chart, usually the transition is smooth. For, such characters are able to patiently and intelligently steer through the change.

A case in point is that of a young woman, who underwent emotional turmoil during Shani’s sadhesati. She could not take on the change kindly. For in her chart, Mars is placed adverse to Jupiter pointing to a high level of ego. Naturally, she would have wished to live life on her terms. Mars was placed opposite its dire enemy Saturn and also mind-signifier Moon. That made her temperamental, moody and which accounted for her irritable nature. Such characters usually lose all sense of reasons when confronted with adverse circumstances and, at times, become even revengeful. Intelligence-signifying Mercury’s adverse placement to restive Rahu made her sense of reasoning questionable. Jupiter’s adverse placement with Moon made her emotionally volatile. For these reasons, she was, in fact, literally in a mental mess when she sought my advice.

First, the situation explained by her was deconstructed, and then reconstructed to put it in the right perspective. Thereafter, she was instructed the way to regain her composure and deal with the situation intelligently, tactfully and diplomatically. The good thing was that she followed the instructions religiously. And soon, within the intense phase of sadhesati itself, her problems began to ease. Such guidance, however, will be forthcoming only when the mentor himself has understood the finer nuances of the spirit and intent of astrology and the philosophy of life well.
