Someone in the process of making a documentary film titled Astrology Demystified, interviewed me at length with his far ranging questions. His thrust, however, was on scientific validity of the discipline being questioned by self-acclaimed rationalists and scientists, who term the discipline as a blind belief followed by the ignorant. Well, at the outset, let me make it clear that Astrology has its own independent structure and philosophy. And since it predates what you term as modern science by thousands of years, the terms and phraseologies used are not compatible with those of contemporary science. So, the subtle nuances of Astrology as a discipline are far beyond the comprehension of the modern science. And therefore, Astrology as a discipline needs no authentication of the modern science.
The filmmaker began his interview with a question raised by legendary theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking in his book The Universe in Nutshell: “Why should the position of planets against the background sky as seen from Earth have any correlation with macromolecules on a minor planet that call themselves intelligent lifeIJ”
Well, invariably those seriously engaged in higher learning often forget about certain basics, as if they would have outgrown their limits. Otherwise, the questioners would not have ignored the known correspondence between the cosmos and life on planet earth. It is a well established fact that life comes into active mode with sunrise and retires for the day after sunset. This natural correspondence between nature’s daily sojourn and life on planet earth did not need any scientific guidance. Second, annular weather cycle by and large corresponds to periodic transit of the Sun through various lunar constellations.
Third, the high tides in the sea on a full Moon day. Remember, the human body contains 70 per cent water element with the same salt-water mix as in the sea. That makes it is difficult to digest that human-self would remain unaffected. It is a different matter that for a being with a solid-frame, the effect is mostly internalised. So, it may or may not be visible as in case of open expanse of sea surface. The effect, however, gets pronounced in case of lunatics. The rationalists often ask: Why only lunatics get affectedIJ Here again, they ignore uniqueness of every being, in terms of their individual structure and inherent tendencies. Naturally, those made out to be susceptible to lunacy will get affected and not others.
The basic problem with the scientists and the rationalists is that they try to judge astrology on a premise they themselves set, which actually is quite at variance with the founding principles of astrology. How can you apply a standard not suited to what you wish to judgeIJ If at all, they wish to judge, they would need exploring astrology the way it is structured and applied. This inconsistency in their approach brings in a false sense of disbelief in Astrology. And under that hang, they often ignore even scientific findings of contemporary times.
Here, an observation by Australian Physicist, Paul Davies, becomes relevant: “For a naïve realist, the world is a collection of objects. For a quantum physicist, it is an inseparable web of energy patterns where no one component has a reality independent of the entirety, and included in that entirety is the observer.” The obvious implication is that this universe is an integrated organic whole in energy-frame. Naturally then, an echo at one end, its resonance would travel far and wide.
In the above context the findings of great astrophysicist Fred Hoyle and his team too deserves attention. His theory suggests that “all familiar elements are produced at the stellar bodies and are made available in course of intermittent stellar explosions. Had the element like carbon not been produced, there would have been no organic existence on earth.” So, there remains a definite connect between the cosmos and life on earth, which very clearly vindicates the ancient Indian dictum: Yata Brahmande, Tata Pindam — meaning as is the cosmos, so is the world.”
Fred Hoyle’s above finding needs to be read together with the well established scientific ‘theory of non-location’, which implies that every point in the space is in immediate and intimate connect with the rest, no matter how much is the distance. How can you then deny the effect of varying dynamics of energy flux excited by nature every moment over life cycle on planet earthIJ
To sum up, the authenticity of the noble discipline such as Astrology is being doubted on account of clouded vision of the questioners.
