The Turkish Drama, offers scenic shots and sparking romance in the film but with a repeated storyline, writes ABHI SINGHAL
Newly relesed on Netflix Chasing The Wind, Turkish romantic drama, directed by Zeynep Günay Tan, comes wrapped in stunning visuals, passionate performances, and the kind of narrative that will feel instantly familiar to fans of the genre. The storyline doesn’t stray far from the usual romantic conventions, it’s the charming execution.
Familiar Storyline
The story kicks off when Asli Mansoy, played by Hande Erçel, travels to a coastal town to meet Ege Yazici, played by Baris Arduç, in hopes of convincing him to support a major business deal. Both Asli and Ege are heirs to the same company, but with vastly different worldviews. While Asli is a polished, determined businesswoman from Istanbul’s corporate jungle, Ege is a laid-back surfer who values nature, simplicity, and freedom.
Their worlds collide, initially with resistance and sarcasm — but gradually, sparks fly and love blossoms. The movie follows a predictable trajectory, with moments of emotional conflict, personal growth, and romantic realisation. Though the premise is hardly different, the story still manages to deliver some heartfelt moments, by its sincere performances.
Cast does a strong Game
Hande Erçel plays Asli with a convincing blend of poise and vulnerability. Known for her previous roles in other Turkish romantic dramas as well, Erçel brings a subtle depth to Asli, making her more than just a stereotypical career woman. You will love her transformation from a corporate strategist to someone falling for the hero as more grounded and emotionally open character.
Baris Arduç, on the other hand, is perfectly cast as Ege, the free-spirited surfer whose charm lies in his calm demeanour and love for the ocean. He brings a certain warmth to the screen, and his interactions with Erçel are effortless and genuine. Their chemistry is the film’s strongest asset, managing to elevate up even the most clichéd scenes in the 1 hour 35 minutes short watch.
Cinematography and Aesthetic
One of the most appealing aspects of Chasing The Wind which you will love are its visual aesthetics. The coastal scenery, wide shots of waves, and sunlit moments add a dreamy backdrop to the unfolding romance. These scenes will take you through like a travel film you can enjoy with coke and popcorns. The use of natural lighting and a soothing colour palette complements the film’s relaxed, summery tone. The film subtly touches on the contrasts of the idea of finding love in unexpected places.
Analysing the Turkish Romance
Chasing The Wind doesn’t offer anything revolutionary in terms of plot, but sometimes, that’s not the point. It’s a comforting, feel-good romantic film that does exactly what it sets out to do-deliver a love story wrapped in beauty, chemistry, and gentle storytelling. For romantic genre lovers this will be a charming two-hour escape.
