A women farmers' seminar organised on the second day of Agrotech Kisan Mela at Birsa Agricultural University on Sunday.
During the seminar, Cancer Specialist of Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Dr. Rajnigandha Tudu said that cancer is the second biggest cause of death in India after heart disease. Only 10 to 20 per cent of cancer cases are caused by genetic reasons, the remaining 80 per cent cases are lifestyle-related.
Tudu elaborated on the symptoms of cancer and the measures to prevent it. She said that cancer can occur in any part of the body, but breast and uterine cancer is more common in women and mouth and lung cancer in men. "By being aware of the symptoms of this disease, by completely quitting smoking and alcohol, by increasing the regular intake of green vegetables and fruits, by reducing the amount of processed and junk food, by including exercise in the daily routine, by maintaining a stable weight and by taking the vaccine for hepatitis B and C, the chances of cancer can be reduced," she added.
The doctor said that by being aware of the symptoms of this disease, it can be identified in the primary stage when it enters the body. This helps in timely treatment. By starting with this, we can get rid of this disease.
BAU Vice Chancellor Dr. SC Dubey said that to develop the country, it is necessary for women to be educated and economically self-reliant. If women are educated, the educational and cultural level of the entire family will be strengthened.
BAU Community Science Department Head Dr. Rekha Sinha said that according to the World Health Organization, 60 crore people every year i.e. 1 out of every 10 people are suffering from contaminated food-borne diseases, so it is important to be careful about food. She also threw light on domestic sources of nutritious food. Dr. Kiran Singh, Dr. Nibha Bada, Dr. Vishakha Singh etc. informed the women farmers about the advanced techniques of farming and animal husbandry.
On this occasion, more than a dozen women farmers were honored for innovative agriculture.
In the afternoon, an animal and bird exhibition was organized which was inaugurated by Dr. Abhijit Kar, Director, National Agricultural Higher Processing Institute, Namkum. He said that high quality and certification of food is necessary for export in the international market, but till date there is not a single referral laboratory in Jharkhand State. Our institute is trying to establish such a food and package testing laboratory in the state, which will benefit the people of entire eastern India. He also distributed prizes to the winners of the exhibition.
In the animal and bird exhibition, farmers of nearby villages brought their high breed cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, pigs etc. in hundreds. University Dean Dr. Sushil Prasad, Dr. MS Malik and Dr. DK Shahi were also present on the stage. The event was coordinated by Extension Education Director Dr. Jagarnath Oraon and conducted by Shashi Singh.
The closing ceremony of the fair will be held on February 10 at 2.30 pm, whose chief guest will be Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. Legislative Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato and Agriculture Secretary Abubakar Siddiqui will also participate as a special guest.
