International Women’s Day was celebrated at NABARD Jharkhand Regional Office at Khelgaon Housing Complex, Ranchi, highlighting the remarkable contribution of rural women entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs), artisans and FPOs. Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Jharkhand Deepika Pandey Singh was present on the occasion as the chief guest.
The other dignitaries present included Padma Shri awardee Chami Murmu, Environmentalist, Bibha Singh, Chairperson, Jharkhand State Cooperative Bank, Shikha Chowdhary, Regional Manager, Bank of Maharashtra and women entrepreneurs, artisans and FPO members from all over Jharkhand.
Addressing the guests and participants present, Gautam Singh, GM, NABARD emphasised on the organisation’s commitment towards women’s empowerment through financial inclusion, capacity building and livelihood enhancement programs. Singh also highlighted NABARD’s initiatives in promoting women- led enterprises and ensuring their sustainable growth in rural Jharkhand.
Padma Shri awardee Chami Murmu, a pioneer in environmental conservation and women’s empowerment shared her inspiring journey and acknowledged NABARD’s vital role in supporting SHGs and women- led Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). Murmu also lauded the financial and technical assistance provided by NABARD which has enabled many women in Jharkhand to achieve economic independence.
Deepika Pandey Singh, Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand praised the resilience of women in rural Jharkhand and reiterated the government’s commitment to foster inclusive growth.
The Minister also stressed on the need for collaborative efforts between the government, NABARD and grassroots organisations to empower women and enhance their economic participation and applauded the efforts of NABARD in promoting women empowerment through various interventions.
A key highlight of the event was the exhibition of stalls by SHGs and FPOs, showcasing a diverse range of products including handcrafted goods, organic produce and indigenous non- timber forest products. The event also featured the felicitation of outstanding rural women entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions to their communities through innovation and enterprise. The celebration also reinforced NABARD’s dedication to empowering women by providing financial support, training and market linkages, ensuring a brighter and self- reliant future for women in Jharkhand.
