Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma, visited the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) for the first time on January 27. They were accompanied by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman, Amarendu Prakash. The ministers were warmly welcomed at the Bokaro airport by BSL’s Director-in-Charge, B.K. Tiwari, along with other Executive Directors.
The ministers began their visit with an overview of the plant’s layout at the Model Room in Ispat Bhawan. This was followed by a tour of key facilities, including the Coke Ovens & Coke Chemicals, Sinter Plant-2 project site, Blast Furnace No. 2, and the Hot Strip Mill, where they gained detailed insights into the production processes. During the visit, H.D. Kumaraswamy inaugurated a new Air Separation Unit with a daily capacity of 2,150 tons, constructed by M/s INOX. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma, SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash, INOX Managing Director Siddharth Jain, and BSL Director-in-Charge B.K. Tiwari, along with other senior officials.
Later in the day, a presentation was held at Bokaro Niwas, where the ministers were briefed about the plant’s production performance, ongoing projects, medical services, township, and various other activities. The presentation was attended by SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash, Director-in-Charge B.K. Tiwari, Executive Directors, CGMs, and other senior officials.
During their visit, the ministers also interacted with representatives of various trade unions, members of the Bokaro Steel Officers Association, and other stakeholders. The tour highlighted the commitment of BSL and SAIL toward enhancing production capabilities and contributing to the nation’s industrial growth.
The visit of the ministers will conclude on January 28 in the afternoon.
