In a significant incident during an ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the Kolhan forest region of West Singhbhum district, two security personnel were seriously injured after triggering an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals. The blast took place on Saturday, in the Chotanagra and Goilkera police station areas.
The injured have been identified as: Sainik Sunee, from CoBRA 203 Battalion (CRPF) and Constable Sunil Dhanu, from Jharkhand Jaguar.
The incident occurred as the personnel were involved in a joint security operation, which began on March 4, 2025, targeting Naxalite movements and camps in the region. The operation involved a coordinated effort by forces from CoBRA 203 and 209 Battalions, CRPF Battalions 26, 60, 134, 174, 193, 197, and the Jharkhand Police, including the elite Jharkhand Jaguar unit.
According to official sources, the IED was planted earlier by Naxals and detonated as the personnel were conducting clearance and security measures in the area. The injured jawans were promptly rescued and airlifted by helicopter to Chaibasa for initial treatment and later referred to a higher medical center for specialized care. Their condition is reported to be stable.
District and CRPF officials have confirmed that anti-Naxal operations are still ongoing, with enhanced caution and reinforcements in place.
