Tuesday, 01 April 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

TT Nagar police arrested seven accused individuals on Sunday while they were plotting to rob a jewellery shop. Acting swiftly on intelligence, the police intercepted a group of suspects preparing to attack and loot near the water tank behind Platinum Plaza.

Upon realizing they were surrounded, the accused attempted to flee, injuring themselves in the process. However, with the support of additional police personnel, they were successfully apprehended.

During the interrogation, the police uncovered that the suspects had planned to rob Modi Jewelers in Panchsheel Nagar, targeting a large haul of gold, silver, and cash. The accused intended to use the stolen wealth to secure bail for a prior attempted murder charge and to finance their escape from Bhopal.

Before executing the robbery, the suspects had already committed multiple crimes, including an attack on Kapil Yadav near Arjun Nagar, leaving him seriously injured. Additionally, they had snatched a mobile phone from a victim, Abhinay Singh, on March 29, 2025.

The police operation was conducted as part of a larger security effort to ensure public safety ahead of the upcoming Eid and Navratri festivals. Authorities recovered an assortment of weapons, including iron rods, pipes, knives, swords, and sticks, which the gang had intended to use in the robbery. Along with the weapons, a motorcycle and a stolen mobile phone were seized, with a total estimated value of Rs. 1,25,000.

Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals had an extensive criminal history, with several of them being repeat offenders involved in multiple cases. The suspects were identified as Santosh alias Kalu Lodhe, 25, who had over 20 criminal cases registered against him; Umesh Chauhan, 22, with over 8 criminal cases; Shani Chauhan, 19, with 3 criminal cases; Aditya alias Aadi Chauhan, 20, with 3 criminal cases; Anand Chauhan, 20, with 3 criminal cases; Monu Chauhan, 20, with 2 criminal cases; and Sawan Thakur, 19, with 2 criminal cases.

The police continue to investigate further connections and potential accomplices linked to the criminal activities of the arrested individuals.
