Tirkey directs assessment of crop damage by hail storm

Strong winds, thunder and lightning along with hailstorm have damaged crops in many areas of the state including the capital Ranchi. In view of this situation, Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey has asked to assess the damage to crops due to rain and hailstorm across the state including all five blocks of Mandar and submit a report within three days.

At the same time, the state's Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari has assured to pay compensation very soon for the damage to crops due to lightning and hailstorm.

Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey has held talks with the state's Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari regarding the payment of compensation amount for crop loss. On the instructions of the Agriculture Minister, officials of all five blocks of Mandar Assembly constituency have started assessment of crop loss.

After receiving information from the farmers and villagers of Mandar Assembly constituency, the Agriculture Minister had directed the officials to inspect the crop damage site and submit a report. Block and zone officials have been asked to submit a report related to the assessment of crop loss to the district headquarters within three days.

There are continuous complaints of heavy damage to the crops in the fields due to rain and hailstorm in the last 24 hours. On the basis of the report, instructions have been given to speed up the process of paying compensation to the farmers for their crop loss. Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari has assured that the government will soon pay proper compensation to the farmers for the crop loss due to rain and hailstorm.

Since the evening of March 20, Ranchi and surrounding areas have been experiencing heavy rains with thunder and strong winds, as well as hailstorm in many areas. The rain and hailstorm in many parts of Ranchi district since Friday evening has also damaged the crops of the farmers in the fields.

In such a situation, Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri has directed all the zonal officers of the district to assess the damage caused to the crops in their respective areas and initiate necessary action for payment of compensation.
