How much time will the vice chancellor of the Nilamber Pitamber university Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh be able to give to the VB University Hazaribag whose additional charge he holds under order of the Raj Bhavan?
Dr Singh assumed the office of the VC Nilamber Pitamber university only on March 3.
In another 9 days March 12 the Raj Bhavan issuing a notification gave him the additional charge of the VB University Hazaribag directing him to dispose of the 'routine works'.
The exercise is tremendous as the VC NPU has to shuttle between Daltonganj and Hazaribag where road journey is preferable to train and it takes more than four hours.
Although media here in Daltonganj has fewer interactions with Dr Singh, the man appears to be result oriented.
The tasks here in the NPU are varied and tedious. Academic sessions are late. PG admissions of the session 2024-26 are yet to begin which in normal time could have taken off in July or August 2024 itself if not in June 2024.
Principal of the MMCH Daltonganj Dr P N Mahto told this correspondent today "I met the VC. He gave me a patient hearing. I apprised him about our exams and results. He appears determined to be setting things right."
There are certain issues like departments going zero teacher on account of the retirement of the teachers. This issue is very complex.
A premier commerce college Janta Shivratri's English department is now a zero teacher department.
Acting registrar of the Nilamber Pitamber university Dr S K Mishra said "It's not the English department only which is a zero teacher department in one of the constituent colleges here in Daltonganj. There are many more departments like psychology, economics etc which are zero teacher departments."
When this correspondent had brought this dismal academic scenario to the knowledge of the Nilamber Pitamber university VC Dr Singh, his reaction was most genuine and candid when he said "Is this not an academic fraud on the part of the university to have students in such departments which are zero teacher departments?"
