A technical meet on “Micro-alloyed Steels and its processing - Recent Advances, Challenges & Opportunities” was organized at RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi this week. Its objective was to disseminate the knowledge towards developing a composite perspective towards adoption of advanced micro-alloyed steel processing technologies in SAIL plants and to address the modern technologies, advancements and challenges in micro-alloyed steel research and its application aligned with achieving sustainability and cost efficiency towards greener steel production. The meet was formally inaugurated by Sandip Kumar Kar, ED, RDCIS.
It brought together 70 delegates from various SAIL plants and units, including steel plants of Bokaro, Rourkela, Burnpur, Durgapur, Salem, RDCIS, CET and CMO, along with participants from MECON Ltd., NIAMT (formerly, NIFFT), and experts from M/s CBMM, Brazil. Over one and a half days, eight technical sessions were conducted, covering key advancements in steelmaking, alloy design, and sustainability related to micro-alloyed steels.
The meet provided a valuable platform for addressing key challenges in steelmaking, fostering collaboration among plants, research institutes, and industry experts to drive innovations in alloy development, process optimization, and sustainable production.
