Diplomats from Suriname and South Africa visited Maharshi Panini Sanskrit Evam Vedic Vishwavidyalaya in Ujjain, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties their countries share with India. During the visit, they stressed the importance of preserving traditions and fostering academic collaboration.
Sunaina Raginidevi Mohan, a diplomat from the Suriname Embassy, expressed her profound connection to India, particularly Ujjain, the city of Mahakal. "Visiting India, especially Ujjain, is a pleasant and unforgettable experience. Despite the passage of centuries, Suriname has preserved its religion, culture, traditions, and language. We must stay connected to our history and roots," she said.
Mohan highlighted the enduring historical and emotional bond between Suriname and India, stating that both nations possess rich and glorious cultural legacies. She revealed that Sanskrit and Hindi are part of the educational curriculum in Suriname and proposed establishing an academic agreement to expand Sanskrit education in her country.
Kadu Solo Bhagwan, a diplomat from South Africa, emphasized the centuries-old connection between his nation and India, noting that Mahatma Gandhi played a pivotal role in fostering these ties. "Mahatma Gandhi's journey from an ordinary man to a revered global leader began in South Africa," he said. Describing India as a land of knowledge and spirituality, Bhagwan expressed his joy at experiencing the spiritual essence during his visit.
Welcoming the diplomats, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vijay Kumar S.J. shared insights into the university’s mission to promote Indian knowledge systems and Sanskrit education globally. He reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering academic exchanges and cultural preservation.
The program began with an introduction of the visiting diplomats by Dr. Shubham Sharma, Head of the Jyotirvigyan Department. Prof. Dilip Soni, the university’s Registrar, delivered a vote of thanks, acknowledging the diplomats’ efforts to strengthen cultural and educational ties.
