Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari said, "All hospitals, especially private institutions, should make it a point that trading of dead bodies will not be allowed in this government. If such incidents come to light anywhere, strict action will be taken against the culprits."
Ansari today conducted a surprise inspection of Medha Seva Sadan Hospital in Kunda of Deoghar district. He took serious cognizance of the news of the hospital demanding Rs 40,000 from the family in exchange for the body after the death of a youth named Kanhaiya, who was injured in a road accident recently.
The minister reached the spot and talked to the patients undergoing treatment and tried to know the truth of the incident. He clearly said that no hospital has the right to take money in exchange for the dead body and such inhuman acts will not be tolerated. In view of the seriousness of the matter, a three-member inquiry committee has been formed, which will submit its report within two days.
Ansari also appealed to the media to inform him before publishing any news related to health, so that justice can be provided to the victims in time. He said that the role of media is also important in strengthening the health system of the state.
After this, the minister reached Deoghar Sadar Hospital, where he seemed satisfied with the arrangements. He told that all the necessary medicines are available in the hospital, patients are being treated properly and all the workers are working actively. He also expressed concern about AIIMS Deoghar. He said, "Just running the OPD will not work. Patients should get overall benefit from an institution like AIIMS. The entire burden is coming on Sadar Hospital, whereas AIIMS has been established in the wider interest of the public. I myself will soon inspect AIIMS." Along with this, Ansari gave a big gift to Baba Nagari Deoghar and announced the establishment of a 500-bed super specialty hospital and a new medical college. He said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of the devotees, so that the devotees coming from all over the country do not have to face any kind of medical inconvenience. He also clarified that he is fully committed to making Deoghar a hub of the health sector.
The minister said, "I can reach any hospital in the state for inspection at any time. Those who are negligent in health services will not be spared under any circumstances." In the end, he emphasized, "The responsibility of the health department has been entrusted to me and I am fulfilling it with full honesty and determination. Any kind of negligence or corruption will not be tolerated. Those who do better work will also be honored."
