The city is all set to celebrate the 186th birth anniversary of its Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, on March 3. The annual Founder's Day celebrations will bring together Tata Steel, various Tata Group companies, and the citizens of Jamshedpur to honor the visionary industrialist who laid the foundation for India’s steel and power industry. This year’s celebrations revolve around the theme "Leadership in Market, Technology, and Cost," reaffirming Tata Steel’s commitment to prioritizing customer needs, leveraging technology, and achieving global cost leadership. The company remains dedicated to Jamsetji Tata’s vision of industrial growth with community welfare at its core.
A major highlight of the celebrations will be the grand illumination of over 20 key landmarks, roundabouts, and heritage buildings across the city. The colorful light displays will enhance the beauty of Jamshedpur and serve as a reminder of the city's rich legacy. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, inaugurated the illumination of Jubilee Park on Sunday, officially marking the beginning of the festivities. The park will be open to the public from March 3 to 5. The Founder's Day celebrations at Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works will be live-streamed for employees, allowing them to participate virtually. Several special events and inaugurations are scheduled during the three-day celebrations, including the official Founder's Day events at Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works and Postal Park, Bistupur on March 3, followed by the inauguration of a Spine Clinic and Stroke Unit at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on March 4. The Spine Clinic will specialize in the comprehensive treatment of spinal disorders, while the Stroke Unit will focus on the rapid assessment and management of stroke patients.
The city will witness breathtaking light decorations at prominent roundabouts such as Lady Gandhi Roundabout, CH Area Roundabout, Centre Point Roundabout, Beldih Church Roundabout, Adityapur Kharkai Bridge Roundabout, RD Tata Roundabout, Jubilee Park-Sakchi Gate Roundabout, Tata Steel UISL Roundabout, Ganesh Puja Maidan Roundabout, and Voltas Roundabout, among others. A total of 26 roundabouts across the city will be illuminated for the occasion. Several heritage buildings such as Tata Workers Union Office, Clock Tower (Golmuri Golf Course), DC & SSP Office, TMH, Centre for Excellence (CFE), Tata Nagar Railway Station, and the Parsi Temple will also be adorned with lights, highlighting their historical significance. The celebrations will extend to five major parks, including Jubilee Park, Dorabji Tata Park, Postal Park, Birsa Munda Park, and Centenary Park (Tinplate), where visitors can witness the grand illuminations and partake in the festivities.
A two-day Founder’s Day Sports event will take place on March 2 and 3 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex from 8 AM to 5 PM. This year, over 350 participants will compete in 31 sporting events, featuring athletes from various groups, including specially-abled children, transpersons, corporate executives, and training center trainees. The sports event will feature exciting competitions such as Tug-of-War and Relay Races for Senior Officials, Golf Putting & Arrow Shooting for Corporate Executives, and a March Past by Training Centre Trainees, accompanied by the Prem Jyoti School Band. The Best Sportsperson of the Year, winners of the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Challenge Cup and Lady Jehangir Ghandy Challenge Cup, and other top performers will be felicitated at the closing ceremony, where the CEO & MD of Tata Steel will be the Chief Guest.
Founder’s Day: Heavy vehicles restricted for three days
Jamshedpur: In anticipation of large crowds gathering to witness the grand lighting decorations and various events marking Founder’s Day, the city administration has imposed a temporary ban on the movement of heavy vehicles for three days.
As per an official order issued late Saturday evening, the entry of heavy vehicles into Jamshedpur will be restricted from 3 PM to 12 midnight on March 3, 4, and 5. However, vehicle movement will be permitted from 12 midnight to 3 PM the following day.
The directive has been jointly issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Traffic DSP to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of visitors. The restrictions aim to prevent congestion and facilitate an uninterrupted celebration of Founders Day, which attracts thousands of residents and tourists.
Authorities have urged transporters and commercial vehicle operators to plan their schedules accordingly to avoid inconvenience. Traffic personnel will be deployed across key locations to enforce the order and manage vehicular movement efficiently.
