The Department of Pediatrics of AIIMS Bhopal organized various awareness programs from March 11 to March 17 as part of World Kidney Week. The event featured cultural activities such as painting, dance, and fashion shows for children, along with a quiz competition for healthcare professionals, in which senior residents, junior residents, and nursing officers enthusiastically participated. The program witnessed active participation from all faculty members of the Pediatrics Department, with approximately 150 attendees.
The event was inaugurated Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh. In his opening speech, he said, "One in ten people worldwide suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in some form. Early detection can help protect kidney health." The Head of the Pediatrics Department, Prof. (Dr.) Shikha Malik, highlighted the efforts being made to promote kidney health. She stated, "The Pediatrics Department is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of children, ensuring a healthier future for them." During the program, children suffering from kidney disease and their parents shared their experiences. One parent, whose child was in the final stage of kidney disease, narrated the challenges faced during dialysis and how they overcame their fears to continue their child's education. Another parent, whose child suffered from Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, shared the difficulties encountered during plasma exchange and how they motivated their child. They also expressed happiness that their child is now completely healthy. These experiences inspired and encouraged other parents present at the event.
Dr. Girish Chandra Bhatt, a specialist in the Pediatric Nephrology Division, emphasized the importance of the Parent Support Group. He explained that this group provides emotional support and vital information to parents of children suffering from kidney diseases, helping them cope with stress and concerns. Success stories boost parents' confidence in their child's care and treatment. The event was attended by Dr. Shashank Purwar, Officiating Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mahesh Maheshwari, Dr. Bhavana Dhingra, and Dr. Kirti Swarnkar.
