Punjab Government will organize a special ‘Kisan Milni’ at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, on April 12 to sensitize the farmers regarding paddy cultivation. The decision is aimed at informing and educating the farmers about innovative and water-efficient techniques for paddy cultivation ahead of the upcoming season.
Mann, chairing a meeting at his official residence, emphasized the importance of preparing farmers for the paddy season by introducing them to modern, sustainable farming practices. The focus of the Milni will be on methods that minimize water usage, such as innovative transplanting techniques. Additionally, farmers will be encouraged to use high-yielding paddy varieties that have been approved by PAU to maximize productivity.
To further support farmers, the Chief Minister announced that the State Government has decided to advance the paddy cultivation season to June 1. This early start aims to reduce complications associated with high moisture content in paddy during the peak harvesting period in October. As part of this plan, Punjab will be divided into zones to ensure a more organized and effective sowing process.
Mann also assured that detailed sowing dates would be announced soon to give farmers ample time to prepare. During the Milni, renowned agriculture experts will be invited to provide guidance and insights to farmers. In addition, Mann reiterated the government’s commitment to combating the sale of spurious seeds, stating that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in such illegal activities.
