With rising cyber fraud cases, the District Administration and Police Department took a strong stand on digital safety during a high-level "Safer Internet Day" workshop held at Karim City College. The event saw participation from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal, ADM Law & Order Aniket Sachan, SDM Dhalbhum Shatabdi Majumdar, and other senior officials. The workshop, organized under the aegis of the National Informatics Center (NIC), East Singhbhum, focused on the latest cyber threats, scams, and safety measures.
Delivering a stern warning, SSP Kishore Kaushal revealed that cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics. “Scammers are now using ‘digital arrest’ threats, fake investment schemes, online gaming frauds, and deepfake videos to trap people. If you think cyber fraud won’t happen to you, think again,” he cautioned. He urged people to stay alert, avoid clicking unknown links, and ignore WhatsApp or video calls from international numbers.
ADM Aniket Sachan compared cyber hygiene to personal cleanliness, stating, “Just as we keep our homes clean, we must also safeguard our online identities.”
SDM Shatabdi Majumdar sent a strong message that no one is immune to cybercrime—whether students, professionals, or the elderly. She emphasized that cyber awareness is not an option anymore, but a necessity.
Officials conducted live demonstrations on spotting fake websites, checking suspicious links, and identifying deepfake content. Experts from NIC, along with DSP (Cyber) and NIT professors, trained students, teachers, Anganwadi workers, and local officials on cyber safety.
In the workshop, an appeal was made to take other important precautions while using the Internet. In case of cyber fraud, it was told to call on number 1930 and immediately register a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and block the transaction. Not sharing OTP, Aadhaar card, PAN card or other bank information with unknown people, not clicking on links coming from unknown numbers, not scanning QR code and not sharing OTP or PIN to receive payment from unknown people, not using public WiFi while doing bank transactions, artificial intelligence, social media, cyber threats, online fraud, deep fake, WhatsApp security, digital arrest and other issues were discussed.
For the causes and prevention of cyber security, all the district and block officials and workers, Pragya Kendra operators, students, parents, teachers, Anganwadi Sevika Sahayika, Panchayat representatives were trained through technical tips presentation by Joint Director (IT) cum District Informatics Officer, Additional District Informatics Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber), Assistant Professor- NIT College, E-District Manager Mamish Prasad.
