The three-day conference of All India Coal Workers Federation (AICAWF) concluded in the capital on Sunday. DD Ramanandan has been made the general secretary of the federation. GK Srivastava will be the president.
RP Singh has been made the acting president. VM Manohar will be the joint general secretary. 15 vice presidents have been appointed.
In the closing ceremony, CITU national general secretary Tapan Sen spoke about the challenges faced by workers in the coal industry. He said that we struggle to save the industry, the country and the workers.
"Capitalist forces are attacking workers. This is the situation all over the world. Now capitalism has become aggressive. Capitalist forces want to take over the country's economy. This includes the coal industry as well. The MDO model of coal mining has been introduced. The company taking MDO will give 4 to 12 percent of its earnings to Coal India. The entire pre-mining system has to be given to Coal India. Permanent workers will not be employed in this. There will be contract workers," Sen said.
The former MP said that if this model succeeds, then gradually permanent workers will stop getting work. "Workers will have to save their existence. They will have to struggle for this. There will have to be a strong protest in every MDO mining area," he said.
The newly appointed working president RP Singh said that there is a general strike on May 20. Every effort has to be made to make it successful. This movement will give us the strength to move further. The situation is not good. Opposition to the policies of the Center is necessary.
MLAs Arup Chatterjee, Ranjit Mukherjee, Fagu Besra, Manas Mukherjee, Sujit Bhattacharya, Dilip Mandal, Basant Kumar, Rohit Kumar, Vikas Kumar Gupta etc. took part in the conference
