A chariot built by the Jai Bharat Sangh Tandwa Akhara caught fire during a procession through the city, on Sunday. The incident took place as the chariot procession neared the stage, where a large crowd had assembled.
Panic erupted when the fire broke out, and attendees scattered in fear, resulting in a stampede-like situation at the event location. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the organising committee and local residents immediately alerted the district administration. Upon receiving the report, the district administration mobilised and dispatched a fire brigade to the location.
Upon arrival, the fire brigade acted quickly, immediately beginning efforts to put out the fire, which was brought under complete control within a short time. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any significant loss of life or property. Although the fire on the chariot briefly interrupted the programme, the situation was quickly contained due to the prompt response of the administration.
Following notification of the incident, Shekhar Jamuar, the Deputy Commissioner of Garhwa, Deepak Kumar Pandey, the Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Officer, and other administrative officials arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation. They ordered that security measures be increased and that the procession be concluded without further incident.
After the fire was extinguished, the programme resumed. The remaining Akhara chariots were escorted under increased security. Each chariot performed its demonstration, and the event concluded successfully. Local residents and the organising committee praised the swift action of the district administration, fire brigade, and police force, which prevented a potentially major incident. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, with initial suspicions suggesting a short circuit.
